Belleair

Belleair is a busy, growing community in Florida with a unique sense of civic pride. Part of Belleair's uncommon personality lies in its brief but colorful history. I am one of few Tampa realtors that can tell you a great deal about its history.  In the 1890s, railroad magnate Henry B. Plant constructed the Belleview Biltmore Hotel in what is now known as Belleair. The hotel, one of the largest wooden structures in the world, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There is not much real estate in the area but you wont find any Tampa realtors who have as many listings in this area as I do.  The area incorporated in 1923 and is one of the smallest cities in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area. It consists of two square miles between the intracoastal waterway, Clearwater and Largo. Belleair has 4,114 residents including professional wrestler Hulk Hogan, and has one of the most successful recycling programs in the Tampa, Clearwater area.

The city was incorporated in 1891 and now has a population of 101,830. There are plenty of homes for sale in this region as well as other forms of real estate, contact me for more details.

Tampa & Safety harbor real estate for sale in Florida

Nestled on Old Tampa Bay, Safety Harbor's written history dates to the 1500s when Hernando de Soto discovered five mineral springs near a large Tocobaga Indian village in the area. The Indians believed the springs had healing qualities, a legend that persists today. Water from those springs is used today throughout the Safety Harbor Resort & Spa. Safety Harbor real estate is beautiful to say the very least.  The city also includes a small Historical Museum on the site of several remaining Native American shell mounds. The museum features artifacts from the area dating back some 10,000 years.
Safety Harbor was first homesteaded by Count Odet Philippe, a French surgeon in Napoleon’s navy, who is credited with introducing citrus growing to Florida. Established in 1823, the Count's homestead is now the site of Philippe Park, a tree-lined 122-acre setting on Old Tampa Bay. A sizable ceremonial mound from the ancient Indian settlement exists in the park today.
The past comes to life in the quaint village atmosphere of Safety Harbor's Main Street. Visitors can canoe, kayak or sail along Old Tampa Bay possibly seeing an endangered Florida manatee. Incorporated as a city in 1917, Safety Harbor has maintained its family oriented community while preserving its environmentally sensitive lands and revitalizing its historic downtown business district

Tampa & Dunedin homes for sale and purchase in Florida

Dunedin reflects the rich American and Scottish heritage of its founding fathers. This charming village-like town of 35,234 features natural wooded and subtropical settings, miles of picturesque waterfront and a relaxed lifestyle. There are many Dunedin homes for sale and they are very conveniently located compared to most homes for sale in Tampa Florida.  It was recently named one of the five most walkable downtowns in America by Walking Magazine.

Located in Dunedin, the unspoiled refuges of Caladesi and Honeymoon Island parks are ideal areas for swimming, shelling, fishing, picnics and nature study and are some of the most secluded areas in Florida. Caladesi Island is one of the last remaining undisturbed barrier islands on the Gulf Coast and was named the sixth best beach in the United States by a 1999 national study and 3rd best in Florida. The islands are also refuges to several rare and endangered birds.

Perhaps one of the most unique recreational features in Dunedin is the Pinellas Trail, a 15-foot wide linear park running 47 miles through the St. Petersburg/Clearwater/Tampa area in an abandoned railroad right-of-way. The recreational trail is ideal for walking, jogging, biking, rollerblading or exploring nature. Dunedin's 4.2 miles of trail winds through the heart of downtown.

Richard L. Garrison recorded the first land deed for sale in 1852 - only seven years after Florida became a state. A petition in 1882 by two Scottish merchants, J.O. Douglas and James Somerville, officially named the Post Office, then the town itself, Dunedin. The town became incorporated in 1899, and a city in 1925. Dunedin was a major citrus producing area and the birthplace of the citrus concentrate industry. It was the first home of the prestigious PGA (Professional Golfers Association) and is currently home to the A.C. Nielsen Company, responsible for the Nielsen ratings. Today, the citrus business has all but disappeared, but the community's Scottish heritage is kept alive with the annual Highland Games and other festivals.  One of the prettiest cities in the Tampa Area.

Largo, Tampa Florida Real Estate for sale and purchase

Referred to as "Citrus City" in its early years, Largo's extensive orange groves provided the livelihood for several of its pioneer families. In 1888 it was established as the railroad's halfway point between Clearwater and St. Petersburg. At one point the only available Largo Florida real estate was orange groves.  Now, Largo is emerging as valuable play to live in comparison with most of Tampa Florida Real estate.  Today, Largo covers about 14.1 square miles and has enjoyed rapid growth with a population of more than 68,500. Largo is a quiet, largely residential community with friendly stores and shops, beautiful parks and recreational facilities, and diverse neighborhoods.  A nice refreshing city compared to most of the other areas surrounding Tampa.
Largo is home to Heritage Village, the area's open-air historical village containing 23 historic structures. Spinning, weaving and other exhibitions are regularly held. Several special events are held at the park including the Country Jubilee in October.

Oldsmar

Developed by Oldsmobile creator Ransom Eli Olds in 1913, Oldsmar was meticulously planned to be the ideal community. Plenty of mls listings are available as well as many other tampa mls listings.  Olds designed his community after Washington, D.C., with tree lined boulevards leading from the northern edge of Old Tampa Bay to downtown which makes it the most scenic of all Tampa Florida real estate. Olds left the town after losing nearly $3 million. He envisioned a city of 100,000, but the population was only about 200 when he left and now stands at 8,798 which is relatively low for the Tampa area.

Oldsmar is home to one of four oils wells in the state of Florida. Olds spent $100,000 drilling the well that yielded water not oil. The well is now capped and sits on the grounds of the Tampa Bay Downs Racetrack. The racetrack is just outside the city, but it has had a significant impact on Oldsmar as well as real estate. The area along Race Track Road remains a picturesque drive past green pastures and racing stables. Oldsmar also features 34 acres of protected wetlands in the Harbor Palms Nature Park. In recognition of the resource conservation needs of the region, Oldsmar has also set up a distribution system for reclaimed storm water.

Palm Harbor

Palm Harbor was supposed to be one of the original towns in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area, but it is a town in name only. In the 1880s the area was plotted for a city to be named Sutherland. The area changed its name to Palm Harbor in 1925, but the depression kept it from developing into a city and it was never incorporated. However, it is a thriving community with more than 65,000 residents and great natural beauty. Palm Harbor Florida real estate and Clearwater Florida real estate is very valuable.  A popular area in Palm Harbor is John Chestnut Park on the shore of Lake Tarpon. The park features nature trials, canoe trails and a boat ramp. Ranked as one of the Top 10 bass waters, Lake Tarpon is a popular fishing spot for visitors and residents of Florida alike. Today Palm Harbor thrives on its small-town friendliness. Much of the old downtown has been preserved and many historical items are featured in the area's historical museum. Palm Harbor hosts three fine arts, crafts and music festivals annually: Palm Harbor Day in May, The Palm Harbor Arts, Crafts & Music Festival held the first week in December and the Downtown Merchants Arts, Crafts and Music Festival in February.  I highly recommend real estate in this area, take it from someone who actually lives in Palm Harbor.

Legend has it that landowner Gen. John C. Williams and Russian immigrant Peter Demens, who brought his small gauge, Orange Belt Railroad to the Gulf Coast, drew lots to determine who would name the developing city. Demens (originally Petrovich A Demensheff) won and named the city after his Russian hometown. St. Petersburg also was the birthplace of scheduled commercial aviation on New Year's Day 1914. Pilot Tony Jannus flew a Benoist airboat across the bay to Tampa with former mayor Abe Phiel as the first passenger.
The city is home to several large corporations including Danka Business Systems, Raymond James, Franklin Templeton, Home Shopping Network and Lucent Technologies.  Ask me more about real estate in this area.
